    The Description

A heavy Derby shoe that bears the brogue detailing synonymous with true country shoes. The Bourton is a piece of Northampton shoemaking history, and today they are the go-to shoe for men all around the world.

A full bellows tongue is folded and attached to the shoe to provide a watertight seal, with the storm welt providing an additional watertight seal between the shoe's upper and sole. The profile of a Bourton is characteristically strong; with a solid sole unit, leather linings and the option of a traditional leather or Dainite sole for practicality.

    The Leather

C-Shade Tan is a colour that harks back to our heritage. Traditionally, Tans came in levels starting from A upwards. C-shade is the tone we adopted and all our traditional country shoes are available in this colour. Due to the follicle hairs it's a very flat tone, with a matted lustre that is unusual to most leathers - a must have for any shoe collector.C-shade requires a high level substance (the thickness) only achievable from the hides of heavier and older animals - our C-shade shoes and boots are made using sustainably sourced Bull’s hides. The result is a really robust leather that wears in beautifully and can really stand the test of time. C-Shade has a good degree of water resistance and due to its hard-wearing qualities is ideal for our country footwear. From new, we advise using Neutral Polish to help maintain a pair of shoes in C-Shade. If you would like to add some more colour to your C-Shade leather then we advise using Fawn Polish. If you have a natural welt on your footwear then please be careful when using Fawn Polish. If you use Fawn Polish on a natural welt then it will stain.

    The Fit

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4444) is larger than a regular UK size by half a size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size. Then take off half a size. So if you normally take a UK size 8 (equivalent to US size 9, Japan size 27 and EU size 42), we recommend you order a size 7½ and so on.

    SHOE KNOWLEDGE

    Brogues

Look in the dictionary and you'll read that brogues are defined as 'a strong outdoor shoe with ornamental perforated patterns in the leather' - A Bourton is the finest example of this that you will find.

The perforations synonymous with brogues were originally a functional characteristic positioned to allow water to drain from the shoes but also to allow for ventilation.

    LAST No: 4444

These are a generous fit and therefore typically larger by half a size. If you normally take a UK size 8, we recommend you try a size 7½.

The last is a hard, three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. Depending on the style of shoe we use different lasts, this is what dictates the overall shape, proportion, fit and character of the shoe.

    Calf Leather

Calf leather is finer grained, and lighter in weight than the hide of older cattle. This means that it is also more supple. It is also very durable in comparison to its thickness.
