    The Description

A heavy Derby shoe that bears the brogue detailing synonymous with true country shoes. The Bourton is a piece of Northampton shoemaking history, and today they are the go-to shoe for men all around the world.

A full bellows tongue is folded and attached to the shoe to provide a watertight seal, with the storm welt providing an additional watertight seal between the shoe's upper and sole. The profile of a Bourton is characteristically strong; with a solid sole unit, leather linings and the option of a traditional leather or Dainite sole for practicality.

    The Leather

A deep, rich brown just like a really good espresso should be. Our Espresso Burnished colourway is the perfect tone for those not wanting to wear black. Perfect for all occasions and beautiful when ages and full of the character gained from plenty of wear. This Bourton is made from calf leather. Calf leather is finer grained, and lighter in weight than the hide of older cattle. This means that it is also more supple. It is also very durable in comparison to its thickness. We advise using a Brown polish to help care for these. As you put the polish on, darker patches will appear which is the burnish. Don't be afraid, this is the affect of the shoe.

    The Fit

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (4444) is larger than a regular UK size by half a size. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size. Then take off half a size. So if you normally take a UK size 8 (equivalent to US size 9, Japan size 27 and EU size 42), we recommend you order a size 7½ and so on.

    SHOE KNOWLEDGE

    Brogues

Look in the dictionary and you'll read that brogues are defined as 'a strong outdoor shoe with ornamental perforated patterns in the leather' - A Bourton is the finest example of this that you will find.

The perforations synonymous with brogues were originally a functional characteristic positioned to allow water to drain from the shoes but also to allow for ventilation.

    LAST No: 4444

These are a generous fit and therefore typically larger by half a size. If you normally take a UK size 8, we recommend you try a size 7½.

The last is a hard, three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. Depending on the style of shoe we use different lasts, this is what dictates the overall shape, proportion, fit and character of the shoe.
