    The Description

Robert is comfortable and hard-wearing and has the timeless look of a stylish derby shoe. The Robert Derby shoe can be identified by its “open” lacing system, meaning that its eyelet tabs are stitched on top of the shoe’s vamp.

With its “open lace” construction, the Robert is suitable for a wider fit and higher in-step. This ensures more comfort compared to an Oxford shoe which has a tighter lacing system.

The Robert is classic and comfortable and like many of our styles they are very suitable for formal occasions and their sleek and simplistic appearance lends itself well to casual and smart casual outfits. As such, derby shoes can work just as well with a pair of jeans as they can with wool trousers.

    The Leather

Muflone is a deeply grained, yearling leather that is softened in wet drums, and then tumbled in dry drums which give it its softness and texture. Our Muflone Acorn has lovely light rich autumnal tones and plenty of character. Not to be confused with Acorn Antique used across our classic ranges. We advise using a Neutral polish to help maintain these shoes.

    The Fit

This last has been used for our City shoes for many years. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (W2298) is true to size, we recommend sticking to your regular than a regular UK. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size.

    SHOE KNOWLEDGE

    Derby Shoe

A derby shoe is characterised by open lacing, which means that the eyelets for the shoelaces are sewn on top of the vamp (the upper part of the boot). This type of lacing allows the boot to be adjusted for a comfortable fit and makes it easier to put on and take off than a boot with closed lacing, such as an Oxford.

    Last No: W2298

This last has been used for decades. It is part of our history and character as England's oldest shoe manufacturer. The size (length fitting) of Tricker’s footwear made on this last (W2298) is true to size, we recommend sticking to your regular than a regular UK. If you are unsure of your UK size, use our size guide to convert your known size to a UK size.

The last is a hard, three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. Depending on the style of shoe we use different lasts, this is what dictates the overall shape, proportion, fit and character of the shoe.
